I think entering the Tekes into the Hunter show ring has been one of the most rewarding experiences I have had with my Tekes

When you show a horse in a Hunter Breeding class you are not allowed to view or have the judgeing card afterwards, you are allowed to ask the judges about their comments after the show. The cards are sent to USEF and I have no idea about who is allowed to see them.

We focused our breeding program for the first ten years on the Fakir Sulu, Gelishkli and Yulduz types, we think they are excellent Tekes. The choice is also realistic, there are many Gelishikli horses around which means higher competition among the stallions to be selected for breeding and the best reps of the line is thoroughbred by the absolute masters in this breed.

Interesting reading indeed, especially the fact that we owe MAAK/VNIIK money for a "service" they have performed without asking us for approval for the extra cost. There are a few passages I do not understand, it might be due to translation, I will email Nadya and ask for the Russian version as well so that our Russian speaking friends can read the original. Below the letter I have attached the forms that were attached with this letter. This is really an exotic breed!

I realise once moving here what a big network of services and products you really need for your horses. The network I had in Sweden had taken me years to build, from hay farms to trainers, farriers, vets, horse dentists, horse blanket cleaners, tack shops.

We have been showing our tekes to sport horses judges a few times in Sweden. Thanks to the generosity of the Swedish Warmblood Association http://www.warmblood.se/ we have been allowed to enter Akhal-Tekes in their various tests for sport horse abilities.

We have survived July and August in Florida! I was really concerned over the heat, humidity, bug impact on our tekes. I must say that we are doing fine. The horses are stabeled at night with ceiling fans on, they spend the days outside, they do sweat a lot when the temperatures are above 92 F and the humidity is around 70-90%, but they seldom seek shade under the big oak trees in their pasture. We also feed the horses a lot of electrolytes to make them drink a lot. The bugs have not been such a big concern, horses are sprayed twice a week with a really good insect repellant and it seems to keep flies and mosquitos away. Our herd have now settled in properly and our horses as fat and happy as usual. I noticed a lot of stress during the first months here after the long trip from Sweden, the horses where very stressed and did not feel good about themselves, neither did I! It was a horrendous two months before I could see their old nice temperament come back again. The two-year-olds are filled with energy and will begin their training program in the middle of September when it cools down a little bit here. They have been under saddle and a little bit lounged and all of them really loves to work.

The Golden Mustang, a Russian equestrian magazine, has published a book about the Teke breed. They have been working on this project for a while and the original idea was to make the book cover all Teke countries but few breeders (including us) where interested in advertising so the book will be focused on Russian and Kazakh Teke breeding.  It looks like it will be a nice coffee table book for Teke lovers.
