PermaLink First fall in Florida 11/14/2005 10:25 AM
This is the first fall ever for me without mud. It is difficult to understand that it is already the middle of November and no mud yet. This time of year in Sweden is normally, wet, gray and muddy with horses establishing their thick wintercoat. The mud is everywhere and by the time the snow comes you are actually happy for the snow because it makes the mud go away. One good thing with the mud period though is that the horses get used to being hosed as they need regular hosing to avoid building a second skin of mud. A user friendly horse must be used to and ok with hosing.
Our days here in Central Florida are dry and sunny and the sandy ground is nice and dry, I love it! The two year olds have not established any wintercoat at all, while the yearlings except Orion have a thin wintercoat, they do sweat a little bit when the play during  daytime but I guess they will do fine during the winter.  It saves a lot of time when you can work the horses without having to begin every day with mudcleaning.
The hoofs where growing very fast during the summer here they have now slowed down due to shorter days and cooler weather and we are now back on 6-7 weeks between trimmings.
Aisona is still in Sweden, she was clipped a few days ago and is working under saddle with a never ending energy, galopp seems to be her favourite gait, which is not surprising as she is an Akhal-Teke.
