Biological warfare 12/06/2005 11:24 AM
Our pastures have been attacked by Mole Crickets.
The horrible little creatures eat the roots of the grass and kills
it, as the green pastures slowly turned brown, we had to consult an expert
from the USF to help us find out the reason to the loss of our nice
pastures he could only confirm that we had been invaded by mole crickets
and now we are planning a biological warfare to exterminate the grassrooteaters.
For the moment the beasts are dormant due to the cool weather (still
feels like summer to a Swede though), we seeded annual rye grass
for winter pastures while we work out the strategy for the big fight in
March-April when live nematodes will be spread on our pastures, the nematodes
will seek out the mole crickets, enter their bodies and release symbiotic
bacteria which will kill the crickets. I do really dislike the mole
crickets now and have nothing against them being killed by the nematodes.
I do like the fact that there have been research on biopesticedes to fight
pests like the ones we have, using poison on pastures for horses is not
tempting at all.
More on the mole crickets when the war
has begun, now they are sleeping, happily unaware of what we have planned
for them.
