PermaLink Happy New Teke Year to all of you from all of us at KaraKum Stud 12/31/2005 10:56 AM
The sun is shining and the rye grass is green and lush. I just placed a pot if red geraniums in front of the stables. Yesterday we had a visitor from a local equestrian magazine here and took a few pictures of our Tekes. A few years ago I would never have imagined doing all this at the end of December.
2005 will be the year of the big move for us and our horses.   We had to make a few tough decisions when it comes to our herd of beloved broodmares, we think though that they have all found good homes and we hope that they will give nice foals to their new owners in Sweden and Germany.

The youngsters we sold in 2005, Pazilla and Paikhas have found new owners that really loves them and we are so happy to hear news from them every now and then. All three daughters from Almaz - Parikhan (Lovki-Dagestan-Sere) have such wonderful temperament and really display the Teke ability to create strong bonds with their owners.

Osman left us a cold and icy day in January, his old injuries combined with a bad fall he had on the ice forced us to take the hard decision to euthanise him.  He left us surrounded by his herd of mares and children. Every day though, we see him in his offspring here.  For five years we had the honour to own and breed such a magnificent animal that he was.

The first foal we had from Osman, Aisona (Osman-Agnets-Pazil) did very well at the Swedish Quality Test and is still in training in Sweden. We think she has found a really good trainer that can take her forward in her career, eventhough we miss to have her here with us.

The last foal that Osman gave us, Ailar (Osman-Akhmed-Adat), is a stallion,  we decided to let someone else have him for breeding as we think his older brother Orion will take us closer to our breeding goal. But those of you that have had to make these difficult selections, know very well that we might have to regret our decision, the breeding value of the two colts is so far unknown. When I am writing this Ailar is being prepared to go to his new owner and his future herd of Akhal-Teke mares.

Almaz is still in Holland while we are pondering over where he will be during the breeding season of 2006. Almaz has of course a very special place in our hearts, being the first Akhal-Teke we imported as well as an old friend of ours. We are so happy that we have his three daughters here with us and do look forward to breeding them to Orion. A perfect match we think.  Every now and then we think about his best daughter though, Gul, she was an extraordinary Teke.  Almaz' only son, Asman from Guldenze (Kaltaman-Gelishikli-Sapar-Khan) , had his first pure bred offspring this year, we are looking forward to see the colt, Asman-Melesur-Omar-Sere is not a bad pedigree.

I am looking forward to a new year with our horses and the breed. A year with Akhal-Tekes can never be bad, eventhough a life with horses has its ups and downs.
