PermaLink A brief summary of 2005 from my point of view01/06/2006 05:25 PM
A few interesting events took place during 2005, unfortunately I could not attend to these events, so my comments are based on second hand information. One of the greater events was the Akhal-Teke races at the Moscow Hippodrome, this is the first time Tekes are being raced in Moscow. I would like to send a big eloge to everyone involved in making this event come true. Let's hope this will be at least an annual event and in the future at least monthly events. Moscow is a great place to show the Teke's abilities on the race track.

Talking about Moscow, the Millionaire's Fair that was held in Moscow caused headlines even in the local Floridian newspapers, of course an Akhal-Teke was there for the millionaires to admire. According to very reliable sources the Teke had more spectator's than Mercedes, I for one, is not surprised.

The French Akhal-Teke association arranged the first official breed show for the Tekes in France. They did it the right way, with judges from Haras as well as Russian experts to assure knowledge transfer to the French judges as well as encouraging the breeders that select for type in the breed.
A big congratulations to all of you in the French association.  If there was one European country I would show my horses in today, it would be France.

The German Akhal-Teke Association arranged a show that was announced as an EuropaChampionat in some places and as a Gut Ising Championat in other places.  No where in the invitations was it mentioned who the judges where.
The results have been published earlier in my blog. I think that Akhal-Teke shows must have educated judges, otherwise they will do more harm than good to the breed. I am not surprised that no one of the few breeders in Europe that breed for type and invest in imports of high quality breeding material participated.
Next time, I wish to see a better organisation by the national association that aspires on arranging European Championships.

The choice of judges in the Moscow show was not a hit either. Again, I think the associations must respect the breeders and the breed when they decide to turn such an important event as the breed shows into a private club of internal admierers.

The winners of the rings in Pyatigorsk this year was a surprise to many. Is there a new look for the Tekes emerging? If so hopefully the breeders will be the first to know, so that next year, the types the not unknown chief selectionist of Stavropol stud doesn't make the same mistake next year.

And, the 10th stud book was published! Good job Russia, finally!
