PermaLink Growing pains 09/01/2006 04:57 PM
I'm so grateful that for once my Tekes are timing their growth spurts with a period that is really suitable for them to rest from work.

All our horses, two-year-old and three-year-olds are growing now, even the hoofs are growing much faster than normal!
They are all really down-hill looking and I am so grateful to have a reason to not work the horses in the heat and humidity we have now.
The horse are happy to come in at night to get away from humidity and bugs, they are spoiled with big ceiling fans in their stalls, so that they can cool down, dry up and rest from the bugs during the night.
The frog choire is really, really loud now, if they move closer to the house I will need ear plugs soon. I have so far identified, only from the sounds the cow frog, the goat frog and the screaming frog. I guess I should be grateful to the frogs though as they eat bugs.

Im sure you will find a few green tree frogs near your house sometime....around windows and door ways....We had them all over the place where I lived in Tampa. They were the main noise makers that I always saw.

Hi Jessica,

I'm curious how big they're going to be.
Agan seems to be in a growing spurt constantly (he hasn't stopped since october last year) and is now 1.60 m (4 years old). So he has gained at least 6 cm since the grading (may last year)and he's looking down hill again!
I feel like decending a huge mountain now when I get off.

Tabitha. It i not unusual that when you geld a stallion at a young age he goes through a growth spurt, a gelding is normally taller and slimmer than a stallion, more androgyne if you like.
6 cm in a year between the age of 3 and 4 is really impressive though, seems like he is doing a little bit of a compensational growth as well. Have you got any recent pictures of him?

Hi Jessica

Yes I have new pictures of him... Pretty nice ones too. just didn't have time to put them on his website yet (see web link above).
I've been cleaning him up and got him an aladjar (actually a silk belt with golden coloured pallets on it but it looks great on him) and the day I wanted to make really good pictures of him with aladjar I got to the stable and he had been harassing his herd leader who didn't take it too well that day... so he had hairless stripes across the side of his belly. So no really good pictures yet
I probably forgot to inform him about the photo session .

THe weather has been terrible and I have missed the girls alot but the heat, storms and humidity make it just about impossible to do anything but survive. PLease give all the girls a kiss for me (especially Miss Rosanna) and of course tell them how beautiful they are. Like they don't already know!! Give me a call soon. I am judging the show at BArrington this weekendand it sounds like you are going to Kentucky! Have fun. Portia
