PermaLink Teke-Turk Hunters 04/22/2007 04:20 PM
Yesterday we took Pekhimli and Astra to a USEF (United States Equestrian Federation) rated Hunter Show.

I would like to apologize to the Florida Teke Fan Team for not announcing this earlier but to be honest we did not want you to waste a sunny Saturday on watching a potential disaster. This was the first show for Todd and me and our horses in the US and we are total beginners with the Hunter world.

We enterered Pekhimli and Portia in a Young Hunter Walk/Trot and Two Young Hunter Over Poles classes. Astra was entered in 3 Year Old Hunter Breeding with Portia's daughter Nichole as handler.

Our goal was to show two well behaved horses in hopefully four classes without any bigger catastrophies occuring, such as bolt out of the ring, buck off the rider, kick the judge, spook at everything in other words not unusual events in a young horses first year showing.

Astra was shown to two hunter judges, Mrs Ann Pennington and Mr Phillip Devita, both judges as very well merited and of course we were interested in their evaluations of Astra.

Astra won her class with both judges. The judges comments in my next blog entry.

Pehkimli was a trooper, due to an organizational mishap from the show management, she had to enter her classes with only five minutes of schooling. She did really good though, she came in as second in her first class walk/trot, third in the first round over poles (picture of her pole jump next blog entry), she finished the last over poles class by winning it. Peggy is a true Teke trooper!

We are very pleased with the outcome of the first hunter show ever for us and our Tekes.

A big and warm thank you to Portia and Nichole who have guided us and our horses to this great first day in the Florida Hunter World, without you, we would not have had such a successful and fun day!

Astra and Nichole Winters, the beautiful blondes.

Pekhimli and Portia Winters, the bold brunettes.

Good job little sister, Peggy gives Astra a well deserved kiss after the show.

I don't know a single thing about Hunter/Jumpers, but they look great! Portia is awesome, so I'm sure her daughter is too.
Great job ladies!

Congrats on your succes.
Great pictures. Astra is really lovely.
Funny to see an orange ground. What kind of stuff is it?

Tabitha - That would be a red clay footing...fairly common in FL...although it gets pretty slippery when wet. ;)
